SibMed University Clinics is a multidisciplinary medical complex with a storied history.

The Clinics of Siberian State Medical University (SibMed) comprise a multidisciplinary medical complex with a distinguished heritage. The institution’s origins date back to 1888 with the founding of its first clinical building. By 1891, the facility opened with an initial ten beds, expanding rapidly in 1892 with the addition of an infectious disease pavilion that increased capacity to 100 beds.

The complex evolved into a comprehensive center of excellence, incorporating specialized clinics for neurology, surgery, pediatrics, dermatology, internal medicine, ophthalmology, and obstetrics and gynecology. Infrastructure continued to grow with the opening of the Hygiene Building in 1893 and the Clinical Outpatient Clinic in 1902. Consequently, SibMed emerged as a primary hub for specialized healthcare across Siberia and the Far East.

The clinics became a magnet for patients thanks to a roster of distinguished scientists whose breakthroughs earned international acclaim. Dmitry Yablokov, the visionary founder of the Siberian Therapeutic School, practiced at the clinics for over 70 years. Boris Poizner dedicated his career to the institution, developing pioneering infiltration-conduction anesthesia techniques for gynecological surgery. The hospital was also the site of extraordinary medical milestones: in 1902, physiologist Aleksey Kulyabko successfully resuscitated the heart of a young girl 20 hours after her passing from pneumonia, and in 1939, Andrey Savinykh performed Russia’s first successful surgical resection of esophageal cancer. Furthermore, Pavel Avrorov and Alexander Timofeevsky were pioneers in in vitro cell culture, laying the groundwork for modern clonal research in hematology.

Today, SibMed Clinics remain at the forefront of medicine, offering a full spectrum of diagnostic and treatment services. As a leading clinical complex, the hospital provides advanced medical care to more than 20,000 patients annually from across Russia and abroad.
